Do you have a career you love or a job to pay your bills?
I believe finding our right livelihood is a process. It is combination of using the gifts we naturally have and actively engaging in what lights us up.
What would you do if you could do anything?
People spend more time planning vacations than planning their careers.
If you are not in a job you love…why not explore other possibilities?
I was helping a bright young man with a resume. He was a customer service person applying for an analytical job. He did not seem enthusiastic about the job. I put down my pen – looked him straight in the eye and said, “Is this the job you really want?”. He gave me various reasons why he should apply for the job. Again, I looked at him and said, “If you could do anything, what would you do?”
“I have always dreamed of going to law school and being a lawyer!” His face was bright and he was clear about what he wanted. We then talked about the steps it would take to follow that dream. Within six months he was in Law School (on a full scholarship!) He had the courage to say what he wanted and the willingness to follow through.
